The SOSOBROTHERS 33oz “TBOA” is the heaviest jacket in the world. The Breaker of Arms earns the name the same way its counterpart does. A jacket at this weight is harder than jeans by a wide margin. Collar, cuffs, plackets and shoulders all stack layers of 33oz on top of each other, and every one of those seams is a point where most machines and most hands give up.
Two people make them. One older married couple, working together, the only ones anywhere who will take on this fabric and build a jacket out of it. Not a factory line. Not a team that can be scaled up when demand climbs. Two people, one jacket at a time.
100% Australian long staple cotton, rope dyed with pure indigo, then twisted before weaving. Twisting is the only route to this weight. Woven on vintage GA1515 shuttle looms running far below normal speed. A quarter of the cloth is lost to waste before a single piece is cut.
Because of this, every TBOA from here on is released in small batches. When a batch is ready, it goes out and it is gone. There is no restock waiting behind it and no way to make more quickly.

WHY WE CAN ONLY MAKE SO FEW
A vintage GA1515 that turns out 120 yards a day of normal denim manages around 30 yards of the 33oz. Waste runs 25 to 30% against 5% on regular denim. A loom making 33oz needs one dedicated worker overseeing it, when that same worker could oversee 8 looms weaving regular denim.
The looms keep breaking. Machines built a century ago were never meant to carry this weight, and the mills are increasingly reluctant to run it.
We keep working with the mill to make it happen. Without any guarantees.
